What to expect

Housemarque has 50+ employees, most of whom are directly involved in game development. Our team boasts an eclectic background and a great mix of experience, talent and youth. Emphasis is placed on honing each team member’s digital craftsmanship skills during the conceptual and design processes, thus ensuring that each project runs more efficiently than the last. Our working languages are Finnish and English; most team members are Finnish, but we’re lucky to have representatives from other nationalities as well.

Helsinki, the world’s second-most northern capital, is a true gem. Many global magazines and websites have cited it as one of the world’s best places to live. There’s always something to do here, the people are extremely friendly and the quality of life is unbeatable.

Housemarque’s offices are located in central Helsinki, surrounded by tasty restaurants, hip bars and cool shops, including the Nordic countries’ biggest department store. All work is done in Helsinki, and we require applicants to reside in the area.

Senior Animator and Tools Programmer

Senior Animator

Senior Animator

As a Senior Animator your responsibility is to be in charge of both the animating, as well as the implementing of animations in the state machine system. Thus, you need to have a strong knowledge of the full modern game animation pipeline, all the way from the rigging process, through animation, to the authoring of the state machine driven animation systems. You will also need to be proactive and capable of handling pressure, as well as working independently, if needed. We believe that “gameplay is king”, so you need to have a solid understanding how animation can serve gameplay.

The tasks for a senior animator at Housemarque can vary all the way from animating humans to weird alien lifeforms and everything in-between, from gameplay animation to cutscenes. We have developed a greatly varying catalogue of games, which reflects directly to the opportunities for expressing oneself.

Required:

  • At least 4 years of experience as an animator in a current generation console (PS4, XBOX One, Wii U) or a modern PC game project and at least one shipped title for any of the following platforms: PS4, XBOX One, Wii U, PC
  • Firm experience working with animation trees
  • Strong skills in at least one major animation software, but experience in Maya is preferred
  • Strong keyframing skills – ability to produce high quality animation in the given time frame
  • Strong understanding of gameplay animation restrictions and needs – understanding the gameplay first mentality
  • Strong understanding of human and animal locomotion
  • Able to rig and skin on a game production level
    Solid understanding of quality meets productivity
    Proactive – able to work as an own unit, if needed
  • Ability to draw down animation ideas, rough storyboards and thumbnails
  • Good communication skills. You gather and share information, and tackle day-to-day problems with efficient face-to-face communication

Tools Programmer

Tools Programmer

One corner stone for our success has always been our in-house engine that has helped us to bring out the maximum performance from several platforms along the years. Now the talented team behind that engine is seeking a new member to work on new exciting and challenging projects.

As a tools programmer, you will be creating tools for asset pipeline and content creation. You would be working in our technology team, who are responsible for our in-house game engine shared between projects.
Assets you will be working with include everything needed to make a game: 3D models, animations, textures, scripts, and more. Tools can range from simple command-line programs to sophisticated GUIs.
There’s a lot to do in the tools and in-house technology side of game development, so we can tailor the job description to fit your skills and desires.
