THE REAP - World 3 (written by Simon Coong)
CUT SCENE #3
This cutscene is cool. It shows a frontal view of some of your friendly craft, and then
pans round the side of one of them, where it zooms in and shows a small picture of a
sheep in a target! Cool!
POWER PLANTS
Starting off in the POWER PLANTS, the first type of
enemy that attacks are the spider droids. By now you should have some
decent weapons to mess around with, so they shouldn't pose too much of a problem.
Some new enemies! These tanks are quite passive from
long range. Its only when you get close to them that they fry you with
a flamethrower! Nuke 'em! Electric Spline fully powered makes short work
of them.
A nice combination. Busloads of potential victims,
and some windmills. As the mission here is to take out the power supplt,
these windmills are the primary concern. Hang about, futuristic time
and we're still using windpower?? Haven't we discovered fusion or something by now???
Another tanker to rack up the score with. By now these
things should be blasted without batting an eyelid.
More new enemies! The canisters floating on the surface
of the water are radioactive and volatile, and getiing close makes them
release a shockwave which damages you! Blast them quickly before they
swarm. The boats are easy to kill, just watch out for their guns that
take off quite a lot of energy.
Another trainful of dead people. Frag 'em with extreme
prejudice. By now, the Electric Shock weapon should be moderately powered,
and makes short work of these trains.
The choppers are back, and you're better equipped to maim them. HAHAHAHAHA! Die!!!
I'm not entirely sure what this burning plane wreck
is for. Maybe just scenery, or is it more??
Flametanks are coming at ya! The fully powered Electric
Shock is quite powerful if charged or left idle, sending out powerful
homing rays, as seen here.
These flying ships look like the smaller subs from
level 2, but act differently. Instead of trying to ram you, they chase
after you and also drop timed mines which detonate and send out powerful
shockwaves! Blast these craft before they become a nuisance!
The COUNCIL HQ level is quite short but VERY hectic
indeedy! The assault begins with some helicopters with Multiple Firing
Rocket Launchers! These dish out mucho damage and can kill you in seconds!
These guys fly very slowly down the screen and get
in the way. Any weapon which homes in or has good spread is effective
against these weaklings.
When you get to the lake lots of spheres float upstream
before morphing into chainguns! Easy to kill. Also, as you're cruisin'
something decides to fire a load of giant blue plasma balls at you...
...turns out its these strange looking floating turrets which are firing at you.
You're shot at from all sides when you reach this section.
Machine gun truuets fire endless rounds at you trying to protect these
large transport helicopters from being destroyed. One of them holds a
diplomatic figurehead which is your mission to exterminate him. Find
him, and kill him at all costs!!
INDUSTRIAL AREA
The INDUSTRIAL AREA is a canyon which leads into a
factory. In the canyon machinegun truuets line the sides and fire endless
founds at your small, battered craft. Return fire quickly or become anti-gravity
swiss cheese.
Seen this thing in R-Type (where it may be inspired
from) and Viewpoint, a rotating shield hides four machinegun turrets
which deserve to be wasted quickly for being cowardly.
These guns move from side to side blasting at you with
twin plasma cannons. There are a lot of them too so expect to take some
damage here.
The flametanks return accompanied by this little moving turret with a homing electric beam.
This rotating circle is HUGE and what is worse has proxmines in the center of it!
Floating carriers of humans. A moving target for a
murderous alien. They take a load of hits but can earn you the biggest
score on this level.
I hate this bit. These rotating barriers travel slowly
UPSCREEN and and what is worse is you're under heavy attack by floating
carriers! Prepare to take a few knocks on this stretch.
Lines of machinegun turrets fire at you and blockade
you. Use a fully powered Blue Plasma or Electric Spline to make short
work of these annoyances.
Machinegun turrets also protect this chopper which
is offloading marines by the ton. Easy kill for a bigger score!
We finally arrive at the boss. Phew! But don't reach
for the tea and biscuits yet! This one is a REAL pain in the rear. Sporting
electric beams and rapidfire cannons on both sides, it tries to splat
you with the two weapons in tandem. Destroy the electric beams first...
...and it tries to maim you with even faster firing machiuneguns! Destroy these...
...and its last line of defense is triplefiring electric
beams, and masses of marines flooding out of the open spots! KILL THEM!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Ah, yes. Mmmm. World 4, anyone?
